The impact of winter on baby's skin

The impact of winter on baby's skin

Winter can have a significant impact on sensitive, baby's skin due to the cold and dry air, leaving it chapped or irritated. Several factors contribute to this, such as:

  1. Low Humidity: Cold air during winter tends to be dry, and indoor heating systems further reduce humidity levels. Low humidity can lead to dry and dehydrated skin.
  2. Harsh Winds: Cold winds can strip the skin of its natural oils, making it more prone to dryness and irritation.
  3. Frequent Temperature Changes: Moving between cold outdoor temperatures and warm indoor environments can stress the skin and contribute to dryness.
  4. Sensitive Skin: Babies generally have more delicate and sensitive skin compared to adults, making them more susceptible to environmental changes

Add in dribble rash from teething or weaning and your baby could be left feeling sore. A face balm can be helpful in providing relief and protection for a baby's skin during winter:

  1. Moisture Retention: Face balms, such as Face The Day Stick, often contain natural ingredients like beeswax, shea butter, coconut oils and sunflower oils, which create a protective barrier on the skin, helping to retain moisture.
  2. Nourishment: These natural ingredients also soothe the skin to ease irritation and redness and nourish and hydrate the skin.
  3. Protection from Harsh Weather: Oil based face balms like Face The Day Stick form a barrier to shield the baby's delicate skin from harsh winds and cold temperatures.

When using a face balm on a baby, it's essential to:

  • Choose a gentle, natural formula: Look for face balms specifically designed for babies with gentle and hypoallergenic ingredients to avoid irritation for sensitive or eczema prone skin.
  • Apply regularly: Use the face balm as needed, especially after bath time, swimming, before going outside, and after cleaning the face after eating, to lock in moisture and protect
  • Keep skin clean and dry: use a mild baby cleansers in baths and gentle plastic free wipes suitable for newborn sensitive skin, followed by Face The Day Stick to keep skin soft and moisturised.
